ABOVE ALL ELSE
The Boys & Girls Club “on the hill” of Detroit Lakes has been serving local kids since 1957, which is the longest than any other club in Minnesota. The 10- acre piece of land used to belong to the Crosvisier family, in December 1955, Mrs. Bernice Crovisier gave it as a gift to the city of Detroit Lakes to specifically be used as a children’s park as her own twelve children used to enjoy the land. Her gift was made in honor of her son, Sgt. Lyle Crovisier, who gave his life during an U.S. Air Force mission over New Guinea in May of 1943. Now as many as 160 children gather at the Boys & Girls Club after school and more than 100 each day during the summer months.
Concordia College Locker Room
In May 2010, Concordia started a series of renovations and new construction to help improve the historic Jake Christiansen Stadium and Athletic Complex. Featured in this renovation was a new locker room for the football and women’s soccer team, which also includes coaches’ office/locker room and a training facility. In the past the football team had to be split and used two locker rooms, due to lack of space. The new locker room is able to provide a home for the athletes and allows for the football team to be together.
Before Detroit Mountain was closed in 2004 it was a family owned and operated alpine ski operation for over 50 years. After it closed members of the community developed an idea to turn Detroit Mountain into a year round recreational facility. They decided to make it into a non-profit. Then the campaign “Bring Back Detroit Mountain” was launched. With great support from the local community, it was able to reopen in the winter of 2014. Detroit Mountain features a beautiful new lodge, a redesigned mountain for skiing and snowboarding, an all-new terrain park, tubing hill, and cross country ski trails. Their ski trails make it family friendly and fun for all ages and skill level. In the spring and summers they have beautiful hiking trails, and professionally designed biking trails to host all levels of mountain bike enthusiasts. Since the reopening in 2014 Detroit Mountain has been able to host various events such as graduation parties, weddings, and fundraising events. Each summer they host a fundraiser called “Music On The Mountain” featuring artist in the past years like Big & Rich, Sawyer Brown, and Cole Swindell. Detroit Mountain has given the local community a slight taste of what living in the mountains is like.
HopeKids Sled Hockey Event: Being there for our team is what builds our company culture and ties us together. One of our dedicated employees, Jason Hilde, is very involved in the HopeKids hockey program. He has two children that use to play for the team. For the past several years, Herzog Roofing has sponsored teams and taken part in the HopeKids hockey sled tournament. This is a fundraiser that everyone looks forward to. It is fun for us to be together outside of our work environment and at the same time we get to support one of our employee’s and an organization that impacts so many children and their families.
